Antonio Solis, an industrial engineer, was named Photographer of the Year by the Photographic Guild of Nova Scotia for 2020-2021.

The Photographic Guild announced on Wednesday, October 17, 2021, on their Facebook account about the winner of this year’s contest, “It took all summer, but the ‘2020-21 Photographer of the Year’ (POY) trophy, is now in the hands of Antonio Solis,” they captioned.

“We would all like to CONGRATULATE him on his beautiful images, slide set and Sight and Sound essay during the past season!” the guild added.

Solis, a well-known wildlife photographer, currently teaches in Nova Scotia Community College’s Industrial Engineering Technology program.

He focuses on operations and supply chain management, quality and process improvement, statistical analysis, facility design, planning and scheduling, and production systems, as well as project management. His manufacturing career spanned over thirty years and took him to six different nations.

Solis was a Mapua Institute of Technology alumnus with a degree in Science Management and Industrial Engineering, having also completed an education certificate program at Nova Scotia Community College.

With a Six-sigma Master Black-belt certification, Antonio championed, led, facilitated, and participated in many Lean-six sigma kaizen events in his capacity as an engineering and supply chain executive in manufacturing facilities of a leading US toy manufacturer in Indonesia and Thailand.

Moreover, aside from Solis’ excellent background in Engineering, his love for photography has led him to win this year’s title. The guild shared the winning photo of Solis which showed his undisputed skill in capturing live photos.

The Guild, which was founded in 1947, is one of Atlantic Canada’s largest photographic groups, with approximately 150 members ranging from beginners to world-class photographers.
