Filipino-American pop vocalist Cheesa has given a mind-blowing performance in the freshly released music video of her “Bakit Pa” remake, bringing the OPM classic to greater heights as one of the tracks in musical director Troy Laureta’s album “KAIBIGAN: A Troy Laureta OPM Collective Vol. 1.”

The quarterfinalist of “The Voice” US season 2 said the video was an opportunity for her to merge the local and western culture in a musical spectacle. She said, “It was my honor to integrate Filipino and Western culture together and present it to the world. I am and will always be a proud Filipina.”

She also offers the video to fellow Asians and the LGBTQ+ community and considers it a statement on body positivity and self-love.

The music video features the pasa doble or double-step dance performed by couple Jake Zyrus and Shy Aquino. It showcases Cheesa as a singing señorita while Troy plays the piano in the background.

Abel Rodriquez, in collaboration with YouMeUs MNL, directed the video shot in both Los Angeles, California and Manila.

Cheesa previously said the remake of Jessa Zaragoza’s original song has been nostalgic for her and her brother, Troy. The siblings grew up singing “Bakit Pa” together, especially when they were in the duet group called A2C. They performed the song all over the world together during weddings, birthdays, and other special events.

Troy said, “We knew we had to revive this song together, put our spin on it. Bring it back to our childhood days.”

The “Bakit Pa” music video is the third visual spectacle off the “KAIBIGAN” album, following the “Usahay” MV featuring Jake Zyrus and “Kailangan Kita” MV featuring Pia Toscano.

Cheesa has previously worked with Nicole Scherzinger, BabyFace, CeeLo Green, Deborah Cox, and many world-class artists and her songs have been featured in “So You Think You Can Dance” and “The Bachelor.” She also released “I’m Not Perfect” with Jake (then called Charice), which garnered millions of views.
