Starting September 1, El Nido will no longer allow single-use plastics on their island tours. Officials of the El Nido local government released an implementation statement to give notice to the public.
Instead of bringing disposable bottled drinks and plastic containers, the public is encouraged to use their own refillable bottles to help lessen waste while traveling.
Official Statement of Mayor Nieves C. Rosento.
The local government unit formed an “OPLAN LINIS” group which conducted cleaning drives from portions of their islands and they managed to collect 30 sacks of plastic bottles alone.
According to the statement, they are working closely with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in implementing this environmental law.
El Nido is one of our country’s top tourist spots and they intend to keep it that way through maintaining a clean and eco-friendly environment.
