The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Western Visayas has already sent PHP915,000 worth of donation to displaced families in Marawi City.
The donation included food items, clothing, beddings, hygiene kits, medicines, among others, donated by different government agencies and private individuals or groups in the region.
In a press conference, DSWD-6 Assistant Regional Director for Administration Evangeline Felicio said the donation were sent in three batches.
The first batch amounting to PHP70,000 worth of donation from the “Tulong Kabataan” was shipped last June 24.The DSWD regional office in Northern Mindanao, particularly in Iligan City, received the donations for Marawi evacuees.
The second batch worth PHP195,000 was shipped on August 12. The items were donated by the Development Bank of the Philippines, Police Regional Office (PRO) 6, Regional Highway Patrol Unit (RHPU) 6 and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) 6.
Another batch of PHP650,000 worth of donation from the Department of Agriculture (DA) 6, Philippine Navy, and the city office of the Department of Education (DepEd) in Iloilo City and Passi City was shipped in September.
Feliciano expressed hope that they will receive more donations to help victims of Marawi conflict.
At present, 89 displaced families from Marawi are in the region. Some 40 families are in Iloilo City while 49 families are in Bacolod City , Negros Occidental.
The validation of other internally displaced persons and families is still ongoing, she added. (PNA)
