The implementation of two flyover projects here is set to start this month, the Department of Public Works and Highways in Western Visayas (DPWH-6) said on Monday.

One of the flyovers is located at Hibao-an village in this city’s Mandurriao district while the other is at Buhang village, Jaro district, said Engr. Rodney Gustilo, DPWH district engineer, in an interview.

On Monday, the Iloilo Sangguniang Panlalawigan’s committee on infrastructure called for a meeting of stakeholders to discuss flyover projects and traffic plans.

Gustilo said the DPWH will proceed with the “fabrication of girders and road improvement aspects” on March 13.

“There will be no actual construction but it will be the actual implementation of the project. We will do first the fabrication of girder. This is initial phase. Later, we will have the columns and piers (of the flyovers),” he said.

Gustilo said the PHP400-million Hibao-an flyover has a length of 390 linear meters and a width of 10.34 meters. Its contractor is the AM Oreta-Allencon Joint Venture.

The Buhang flyover, on the other hand, has a length of 340 linear meters and width of 10.34 meters. Its contractor is F. Gurrea Construction, Inc.

Gustilo said the Buhang flyover has a total project cost of PHP333 million.

“We will implement these two projects simultaneously,” he said, adding that the completion date of the two projects is set Nov. 25 this year.

The two locations were identified to have a need for a flyover based on the DPWH’s Road and Bridge Information Application (RBIA).

“There is traffic in the area because that is the choke point considering the intersection particular in Tabuc Suba (Jaro) for the Buhang project; and San Miguel (town) for the Hibao-an. That is the reason why we have project proposal of flyovers there,” Gustilo said.

The two flyovers are part of the four flyovers that will be constructed in Iloilo. The two others are located in Aganan village, and Ungka II village, both in Pavia town.

Construction of the Ungka II flyover kicked off last Jan. 13 while the PHP480-million Ungka II flyover is 36 percent complete as of Feb. 29, Engr. Mavie Gustilo, project engineer of DPWH-6, said during the meeting. (PNA)
