Don Papa Rum Challenges Artists Anew In 4th Annual Art Competition





Bleeding Heart Rum Company (BHRC), makers of Don Papa Rum, is inviting all Filipino artists to join the 4thAnnual Don Papa Art Competition. This annual competition is an avenue for up-and-coming Filipino artists to showcase their artistry to a global audience. As in previous years, the challenge is to reimagine Don Papa Rum’s secondary packaging using the brand’s visual elements and the story of Sugarlandia as reference, all while incorporating a touch of wonder and everyday surrealism.

Every year, the art competition generates hundreds of entries. In fact, the past competitions engaged almost a thousand Filipino artists. Aside from the canister and the art sojourn, the grand winner will also take home Don Papa Rum products and be featured in Don Papa’s social media accounts, newsletters, and all press communication. Over the last 3 years, Don Papa Rum has showcased three art canister editions, with more than 100,000 units sold worldwide. The unique packaging continues to earn wide consumer reception globally and is treated as a yearly Don Papa collectible.

The contest is open to artists who are currently based in the Philippines and are affiliated with any of the country’s galleries or museums. He/She must be 21 years old and above, a resident Filipino citizen, and with a passport valid until December 2019 and beyond. Independent artists who wish to join must seek temporary affiliation with a local gallery or museum that will act on their behalf in terms of registration, communication, and submission.

Entries can be in the form of a painting, drawing, photograph, print, or digital art in landscape format. Only original artworks that do not infringe on any existing intellectual property rights will be accepted in the contest. The top 10 submissions will be featured in the Don Papa Rum Exhibit at Art Fair Philippines 2019.

The winning entry will be the visual basis for the Limited Edition Don Papa Art Canister 2019, to be sold globally. The winning artist will also get an exclusive four-week Art Sojourn in London, UK, complete with airfare and accommodations, while his/her representing gallery or museum will get the chance to join the trip to London, courtesy of Don Papa.
