Italian couture powerhouse Dolce & Gabanna staged their annual Alta Sartoria outside the stunning La Cattedrale Di Santa Maria Nuova situated atop the hills of Palermo, Sicily. Alta Sartoria is the menswear leg of the D&G’s annual Alte Artigianalità—a three-day, strictly costumers-only sartorial extravaganza intended for the brand’s most high-profile clients.
Alta Sartoria literally translates to “high tailoring”, that means showcasing the best of the best in men’s formal wear. But that wasn’t the case for Dominico Dolce, who believed that men’s formal wear doesn’t necessarily have to translate to tuxedos or a three-piece suit. The D&G Alta Sartoria way of couture doesn’t only cater to wedding or office wear, their brand of bespoke comprises of everything a man might want to keep in his wardrobe—from everyday, to formal, down to sleepwear.
And perhaps the most interesting bit of the show was the fact that the Italian label managed to cater to a wide array of age groups; there were embellished sweaters for the millennial market and sequinned, printed suits for the more matured buyers.
In a nutshell, this year’s Alta Sartoria featured a whole lot of breathtaking perennial, timeless pieces: embroidered formal suits, Cathedral-looking bomber jackets, shirts emblazoned wuith the world “Palermo”, woven patchwork leather shirts, stoned pyjamas, embellished robes, bejeweled trousers, and Dolce’s newest fad: the velvet slippers.
