Down to the last four days of voters’ registration, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) has opened a sign-up site at a mall here as the Municipal Election Office remained closed for disinfection.

Comelec provincial supervisor and lawyer Ian Lee Ananoria, during a virtual press conference on Monday, said the center will cater to a maximum of 300 registrants daily until September 30 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Three Comelec personnel here, including Election Officer III, lawyer Pacifer Victorino Ticao, are on home quarantine after their exposure to a coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) patient.

Ticao had been temporarily replaced by Acting Election Officer Ma. Luisa Marfil.

Ananoria said there had been a surge of last-minute voters in 17 other municipal election offices of the province.

“We would like to remind the voters to bring face masks and face shields, use alcohol, and observe social distancing,” he said.

He said the reminder also applies to candidates who will file their certificates of candidacy on October 1 to 8.

As per the last deliberation on July 19, the province has 363,398 registered voters in 1,168 clustered precincts of the 18 towns. (PNA)
