The Bulacan State University (BulSU) on Monday broke ground for its new resource management building at its campus in Barangay Guinhawa here.

Senator Joel Villanueva led the groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of construction of the PHP324-million building.

He was joined by Governor Daniel R. Fernando, City Mayor Gilbert Gatchalian, BulSU president Cecilia S. Navasero-Gascon, executive vice president Dr. Teody San Andres, and BulSU vice president for administration and finance Dr. Jaime Pulumbarit.

Gascon, in an interview, said the proposed project is located in a 25-hectare lot owned by BulSU in the said barangay, with a built-up area of 6,536.87 square meters.

“The building is a five-story level concrete structures that will accommodate the BulSU administration personnel, which include the executive officer,” she said.

Gascon said the building is sustainably designed with solar electrical features and open passive cooling system.

She noted that the PHP324-million fund for the construction of the building came from the 2021-2023 General Appropriations Act which was sponsored by Senator Villanueva.

Gascon, in her message, thanked the provincial and city officials for the support to the university, as well as her plans for the state university.

Villanueva, for his part, said he wants the BulSU to become world class in the near future.

”Ako ay nagagalak (I am happy) because the men and women of our state university ay nagkakaisa sa isang proyekto (are united in one project) that is bigger than us,” the senator said.

He also said that because of the Doctor para sa Bayan Law or Republic Act 11509, the BulSU will have a College of Medicine in 2022.

Meanwhile, Fernando cited the importance of continuously developing the education sector.

As BulSU is his alma mater, Fernando said he is ensuring that all Bulakenyos, including the marginalized, can now avail of quality education in the province’s state university.

He thanked BulSU officials for continuously pouring in projects that could help develop the province. (PNA)
