The people of Tagbilaran will soon have a wonderful park that is being eyed to boost tourism here.
The City Media Bureau reported in a statement Friday that the Bohol Friendship Park is expected to be ready for soft opening by May this year.
The city government is betting on the new park to be Tagbilaran’s next big attraction which is located beside the iconic Blood Compact Shrine in Barangay Bool.
The shrine, which was believed to be the site where Rajah Sikatuna and Miguel Lopez de Legazpi made their Blood Compact, has been debunked by historians, who pointed to a site in Loay town as the true location of the historic event.
As this developed, the city decided to build a modern park to the tune of PHP58 million beside the shrine to entice tourists to still visit the site.
The Media Bureau said the park’s amphitheater, ancient well and parking area have been completed.
Jeanette Laila Busano of the City Media Bureau said the project enters the next phase where construction of the gallery, viewing deck, and heroes’ park will start.
In the next phase, the landscaping of the park will begin .
The new park will also feature an audio-visual room, a mini botanical park and stilt-supported structures along the mangroves which will be housing the souvenir and coffee shops. (Dave Albarado/PNA)
