Members of the Philippine Contractors Association (PCA) have supported the government in establishing emergency patient care centers (PCCs) for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) patients.

PCA members, particularly giant names in the industry, have helped convert big sports venues and convention centers into PCCs and install these facilities in hospitals in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.

Prime Metro BMD and the Bloomberry Cultural Foundation, Inc. of the Razon Group of Companies have turned the Rizal Memorial Coliseum into a 112-bed PCC. It is now ready to accept Covid-19 patients who are asymptomatic and those displaying mild symptoms.

The Yuchengco Group’s EEI Corp. and the Villar family’s Vista Land put up the PCC at the Philippine International Convention Center Forum Halls with 294 beds.

The Makati Development Corp. and other companies under the Ayala Group are working on the 502-bed facility at the World Trade Center.

“As a nation builder, PCA is committed to working with the government in its Covid-19 response. Bayanihan (community spirit of cooperation) is a Filipino concept that we truly own and it now leads all of us to do our best in this great fight,” PCA executive director Barry Paulino said in a statement.

The PCA and affiliate members of EEI Corp. also pooled their resources to quickly set up 60 emergency medical facilities that will be used by eight hospitals in San Juan, Mandaluyong, Manila, and Quezon City, as well as Antipolo in Rizal, Santa Rosa in Laguna, and Batac in Ilocos Norte.

Datem Construction is also putting up PCCs at the National Kidney Institute, Philippine Army General Hospital, and Ospital ng Makati.

The same facilities are being done by Will Decena and Associates at the Mandaluyong Medical Center and the Lung Center of the Philippines.

The Department of Public Works and Highways, which is spearheading the establishment of the PCCs in the country, also collaborates with PCA members DM Consunji and Boysen Philippines.

The PCCs aim to isolate Covid-19 patients to further contain the spread of the virus in the country.

As of 4 p.m. on April 16, confirmed Covid-19 cases in the Philippines reached 5,660. Some 435 patients have recovered from the disease, while 362 have died. (PNA)
