A barangay in Pasig released the salaries of its 260 employees while those assigned in the frontline will be given additional financial assistance in recognition of the risks they are facing as they continue to render services amid the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The workers of Barangay San Antonio have been given their March 31 salary in compliance with President Rodrigo Duterte’s call enjoining all government agencies and local government unit “to render full assistance and cooperation to undertake critical, urgent and appropriate response and measures in a timely manner to curtail and eliminate the threat of coronavirus”.

Village chief Raymond Lising said “we will give the salary intended for March 31 (March16-31) in advance. We will be preparing also the salaries for April 1-15 next so we can give it if needed. We assured full and complete salaries to our barangay employees in spite of the lockdown especially for those who cannot go to work.”

Lising also praised barangay frontliners who continue to work to ensure unhampered public services.

“The frontliners are members of our Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management team, barangay health workers, security force, garbage collectors, street sweepers, VAWC Desk, drivers and other key positions in the barangay that are helping our operations during this crisis,” he said.

He said barangay workers’ sacrifices during these tough times won’t go unnoticed and vowed that they won’t be neglected.

“We will arrange a systematic distribution of the payroll in the barangay hall observing social distancing and minimal interaction,” he said.

Lising expressed gratitude to all barangay employees for their dedication, hard work, and sacrifices during these trying times.

“Our commitment to give them their full salaries is our way of showing compassion to them and to make sure that they will be able to sustain their daily needs in this time of crisis,” he said. (PR)
