Bacolod City To Hire 1.6K Youths For Summer Jobs

The Bacolod City Public Employment Services Office (PESO) will hire 1,630 youths for the Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) this summer.

PESO chief, Ma. Rebecca Balicas said as of Tuesday, they have already distributed the application forms through the village chiefs of the city’s 61 barangays.

Of the total number to be hired, about 1,500 will be under the direct employment of the city government from April 15 to 26. Each student is usually entitled to receive PHP3,000 for 15 days of work at PHP200 per day.

The remaining 130 will work under the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) from April 15 to May 8. Their employer will pay the 60 percent of the prevailing minimum wage and 40 percent will be shouldered by DOLE.

“The list of requirements is attached to the application form,” Balicas said. These include school records, certificate of indigency, and ID photo.

Balicas said youth from Bacolod between 15 years and 30 years old are qualified to apply so long as they are in school, although out-of-school youth who want to earn money for enrollment will be accepted.

She added that those hired by the city government will be assigned to assist in data gathering for the National Skills Registry.

“The program is really intended to help in the expenses of students for the coming school year,” Balicas said.

For its part, the DOLE through the SPES aims to provide students with work related to their career path.

High school students are only allowed to participate in SPES during summer vacation while college, and technical and vocational students who are 18 years to 24 years old can take advantage of the opportunity all year round. (PNA)
