You may be familiar with Nippon Paint Young Designer Award (NPYDA) which is a competition dedicated to interior design and architectural students to come with the most innovative designs since 2008. This year, Nippon has made a grandeur experience and relaunched NPYDA to Asia Young Designer Awards (AYDA). Previously only involving 12 countries including Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Bangladesh, Thailand, Pakistan, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Vietnam, China, Japan and Hong Kong, the competition now stretches to Sri Lanka, India and Taiwan.
This year’s theme; “Be bold. Be free. Be You”, unleashes the pure creativity of student designers and architectural students. There are two specific categories, one for the architectural students while the other focuses on interior design students. The grand prize allots a P50,000 cash prize, a 6-month internship opportunity from Lor Calma & Partners and Aidea, Inc. and a once in a lifetime programme abroad for a chance to compete against 14 and other countries and win a platinum card and USD$1,000.
Locally, one entry will be allowed per student participant with a deadline of submission on the 15th of October 2016 and may be entered to Oncuemedia, Inc, Unit 5A, 5th Floor, Suntree Tower, Sapphire Road, Ortigas Center, Pasig City. A respected panel of judges in the Philippines includes head judges IDr. Wilfrid Nicholo Magcase, FPIID, FAPSDA, FOIFI, Ar. Maria Nina Bailon Arce and Ar. Maria Benita Regala to name a few.
Nippon Paint (Coatings) General Manager Michael Chung encourages students to join stating, “We have challenged the youth to observe what is needed in our society, to think beyond convention, and to create corresponding designs that express their distinct mark as tomorrow’s leaders in architecture and interior design.”
