4.2-Magnitude Quake Hits South Cotabato Town

A 4.2-magnitude earthquake hit the mountainous portion of T’boli town in South Cotabato early Friday, but no damage was reported.

Nane Danlag, head of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) station, said the quake hit the area at around 2:07 a.m., with the epicenter traced at 19 kilometers southeast of T’boli town.

The temblor had a depth of focus of 23 kilometers and was tectonic in origin or caused by movements of the tectonic plate.

It was felt at Intensity 4 and the neighboring areas.

Phivolcs did not expect any damage and stronger aftershocks following the quake, which was the fourth for the area in the last three days.

A 3.8-magnitude quake was recorded at 37 kilometers southwest of Glan town in Sarangani Province.Two more quakes — 2.7 and 2.6 magnitude — hit separate locations near Maasim, Sarangani on Wednesday.

Four people were injured while several structures and in Sarangani sustained various damages after a 7.2-magnitude quake hit the seas off nearby Sarangani town in Davao Occidental.

The quake was felt at Intensity 5 in this city, Sarangani and parts of South Cotabato province. (AC/PNA)
