Twelve individuals in Region 9 who are 100 years old and above are set to receive the PHP100,000 centenarian cash gift from the government through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
The grant of the centenarian gift and a letter of felicitation from the President are pursuant to Section 2, paragraphs B and A of Republic Act No. 10868, otherwise known as the Centenarians Act of 2016.
It is the government’s way of honoring Filipinos for his or her longevity as they reached the age of 100 and above as well as their contributions to the society.
Ivan Eric Salvador, DSWD regional information officer, said the gift and letter of felicitation will be handed over to the 12 centenarians next week.
Salvador said the region has six male and six female centenarians. The oldest is 113 years old.
He said nine of them are residents of Zamboanga del Norte and the rest from the province of Zamboanga del Sur.
He said the 12 centenarians were identified and validated by the DSWD in partnership with the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs in the locality where they live. (TPGJR/RG/AAG/PNA)
