10 Hidden Speakeasy Bars In Manila

During the prohibition era in America, alcohols were illegal. But people can’t live without it that’s why they made bars accessible in the most hidden area as possible in their town.

Today, grabbing a drink is too easy. It’s too easy that sometimes it gets quite boring. A little exploration of searching your drink can make the night rendezvous and more exciting. It may be on the roof, underground or behind a typical wall. Wherever it may be, ‘hidden’ and ‘secrets’ are something that fascinates most of the people.

Can you keep a secret? Here’s a list of some mushrooming secluded bars in the Metro:

Prohibition Liquor Lounge

Prohibition Liquor Lounge is an intimate and exclusive bar situated in Greenbelt 3, Makati City. It can accommodate more than a hundred people with its spacious high ceilinged area where you can chill drinking their swanky cocktails, eating their delightful food and experiencing their finest service.

However, before experiencing those, you will have to enter a secret room by Dilingers 1903 leading you through the tunnel where following a yellow tape will be your guide to the main entrance. It is inspired during the Prohibition era of the 1920s where alcohol was prohibited and was illegally sold in hidden underground bars.

Location: 3rd-floor Greenbelt 3, Ayala Center, Makati
Opening hours: Monday-Saturday 6:00 PM-3:00 AM

Alcohol By Volume

Alcohol by Volume is a speakeasy bar that can make you time-travel to the 1920s era. However, you will be needing a quite amount of cash for its swanky ambiance and classy cocktails that it offers.

Following the big neon sign pointing to burger and fries, you would see a large wooden door leading you to an old vintage-like elevator where you will have to knock 3 times and say the secret password.

They offer signature cocktails and classic list of drinks where some are relatively pricey. While some items are limited, an extensive list of what skilled bartenders can create are offered when you ask the waiter to bring you their so-called “Bible.”

Location: Basement Floor, 1209, 22 Jupiter, Makati, 1209 Kalakhang Maynila

Bank Bar

The founders of Bank Bar wanted a bar that is not too crowdy and doesn’t play loud music but couldn’t find one. Instead of searching such place, they created one. A bar that is intimate and a mystery still for some.
Located at the RCBC Savings Bank Corporate Center, you would be muddled why the Google Map itself couldn’t locate the bar.

This is because the entrance to it isn’t the typical entrance that you are imagining. People would have to go inside a 7 Eleven convenience store, proceed to its exit and to a stock room-like hallway leading to a curtain that covers the main entrance of the bar.

Location: Ground Floor, RCBC Savings Bank Corporate Center, 26th and 25th Street, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City
Opening hours: Monday-Friday 5: 00 PM-2:00 AM; Saturday 8:00 PM-3:00 AM

Exit Bar

In a place surrounded by different offices and companies lies a bar that can make you feel at ease. With its dim room and chill music, you’ll surely be relaxed after a long busy day.

As the name suggests, the speakeasy bar is literally found behind an emergency exit. This may just be the only exit that is actually the main entrance to a bar. More than its cocktails, the Exit bar offers a kind of privacy that will allow you to cherish the drinking and story-telling session without being distracted by a crowd of strangers and a loud music.

Location: Corinthian Plaza, 121 Paseo De Roxas, Legaspi Village, Makati City
Opening hours: Monday-Saturday 5:30 PM-2:00 AM; Sunday 5:00 PM-2:00 AM
